Emergencies and After Hours

Toowoomba Vet Hospital will always prioritise emergencies an no appointment is needed. Our dedicated team has over 70 years experience in dealing with emergency, trauma, and critical care situations.

In an emergency please call ahead on (07) 4632 8333 and advise us of your emergency for the appropriate response. If it is after hours or staff are unavailable we will direct you to:

Common Emergency Signs

If you feel your pet is having serious problems, your best option is to give us a call (07) 4632 8333.

Below is a list (by no means exhaustive) of conditions that are considered emergencies:

  • Breathing difficulty
  • White, blue, or purple tinge to tongue or gums
  • Bloating of the abdomen
  • Unproductive retching or gagging, particularly if associated with a distended abdomen, crying, anxiety or obvious discomfort
  • Straining to urinate, particularly in male cats
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Known or suspected ingestion of illicit drugs, rat bait, or other toxic substances
  • Seizures that last more than 5 minutes
  • Choking
  • Trauma (hit by car, dog attack, fall from a height, etc.)
  • Changes to mentation, obtundation
  • Burns (chemical, heat, or steam)
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Paralysis or weakness in the back legs
